Proposal and Ceremony Inspiration
As you will see, we will be getting married in a Planetarium in the dark, and here is why...
Jesse and I love to go to the Cincinnati Observatory for classes, lectures and to look at the stars through the oldest telescope in the US (150+ years old).
We also enjoy taking out my telescope on the driveway on a clear night to see the Moon and planets.
That background turned out to be a great distraction story to propose to Jesse. I had mentioned we should plan a long weekend to go to Hocking Hills Ohio, home to the Darkest skies in the Eastern US. I said we could plan the trip for when the center of the Milky Way is right overhead at night (Summer) and on a weekend when the Moon would not be in the way.
Luckily, everyone knew the real plan but no one told Jesse so she was quite surprised. The first night was too cloudy, but we had a perfect day the whole next day hiking, finding the Lilyfest, grilling out and spending time reading on the deck and enjoying the hot tub.
Just before Midnight we went out to a Park parking lot and with a clear view and saw a great clear sky with the entire Milky Way.
Despite the Candy Bar stories Tom likes to tell, I told her showing her all the stars of the Milky Way was the only way I could think of to show her how much I loved her and I proposed. Luckily she said Yes, and luckily we didn't get busted by the Park Ranger for trespassing into a State Park after closing until the next night.
Here is our official Engagement photo, taken the next day. It took a couple tries and the first person turned us down when we asked them to take our picture (who does that?). And the second attempt was blurry.
